The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals is the highest court for criminal cases in the state of Texas. It is located in Austin, Texas. Texas also has a Supreme Court that handles civil matters. The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals is made up of nine judges, including a presiding judge and eight associate judges.
Texas elects the judges who serve on the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, with each judge serving a six-year term. Currently, this court is 100% Republican. Judge Riley is running as a Democrat to balance the make-up of this court and add a new perspective.
